Security

A screenshot redaction app with explicit boundaries.

Redaktr is designed for sensitive screenshots: local processing, separate cleaned output, limited network use, and permissions that map to features you choose.

Security posture

Sandboxed app

Redaktr uses the macOS sandbox and works with files, folders, clipboard images, and captures that you choose.

Local OCR and detection

Sensitive text detection, visual detection, redaction planning, and output rendering run on the Mac.

Flattened exports

Cleaned output is rendered as a separate flattened image with active redactions applied and metadata stripped.

Permissions

Permission Why Redaktr may ask What it does not mean
File or folder access Open images, batch scan a selected folder, watch a selected screenshot folder, or export a cleaned copy. It does not grant Redaktr broad access to unrelated files.
Screen Recording Capture a screen, window, or area through Redaktr-owned capture commands. It does not mean Redaktr monitors other apps or intercepts native screenshot shortcuts.
Network client access License checks, checkout links, update checks, and app updates. It is not used for screenshot uploads or cloud detection.

Detection is a review aid

Redaktr is intentionally honest about limits: detectors can miss things. The app shows findings, lets you adjust or draw boxes, and expects human review before sharing.
